Yogi Danasana

I went for this class which had only 3 students and the teacher graciously agreed to focus the class on shoulder openings. It was a very interesting class. We did some actions to help us “feel” our shoulders, learning how our rotation and limitation of our shoulders.

The highlight was when the teacher showed us the pose Yogi Danasana. All of 3 of us in class were wowed. Teacher jokingly says if you can do this, it is “stylo milo”… hee hee… but it was really “stylo milo” but this pose requires your shoulders and hips to be quite open in order to go into it.

First you should go into a double pigeon : sit and put one leg with shin across the mat and the other leg with shin also across the mat and on top of the other mat. Then you will twist to one side and go low until your armpit touches your top foot. Eg.l if your left leg is on top, then you will twist to the right side and place your right armpit near the foot. Then you will try to lock the foot onto the armpit with the arch of the foot sitting abeit pressing against your armpit. Then reach that arm out and try to hold on to the knee of that top leg. This will lock the arm along the shin of the top foot. Once you got that, bring your body up and the bound leg and arm to the side and then sit upright. Next put your other leg up and then out the other arm on the knee. Tada!

very difficult…. hee hee… but stylo miloooo… woo!
