Today I went back to my roots.
Actually I was back for 3 days in a row to attend this yoga teacher’s class. And I remembered. Why I love yoga so.
For the last ten years or so, I was an avid gym goer. Every weekend I will hit the gym like a mad woman. Ran and walked on the threadmill, went around the equipment in the gym, burning my muscles on each machine. Of course being human, I do get lazy at times and the fact that i do not have any gym buddy, makes each workout quite a chore at times. I also went for the occasional pilates and yoga classes. I usually love my pilates class and I would be quite consistent and go for the pilates classes. This is due to a good teacher who pushes you in each class.
Today I attended my regular power yoga class by a great anusara teacher. Like the rest of the anusara teachers, he instils much fun and connectivity into his class. In this class, his emphasis is on being perfect just the way you are. He sang a chant which says that if you take away perfect, you still wil have perfect. Hmmm… food for thought.
Yes, I have this weird problem with my knee when I am doing pigeon. It is the pigeon with the left leg behind. Everytime I start to bend the knee, there will be a pain in the knee. And hence, I never dared to really bend the knee and just watch the rest of the people do the pigeon.
Today I attended 2 workshops by this anusara teacher Desiree Rumbaugh. She is not only a great yoga teacher but she is a person with alot of heart and energy about her. I really enjoyed her class and learned alot from this fantastic lady.
In the morning, the workshop was on backbends and arm balancing. And in the evening it was on yoga therapy for the upper body, mainly the shoulders and neck.
Oh yeah.
Yesterday I went for another ashtanga class. This time by another great teacher. He was highly recommended by another of my yoga buddies. The teacher was really humorous and you can tell he really enjoyed teaching the class. This was an ashtanga LED class, meaning teacher will led you through the poses in the primary series and other poses that he can fit in. He was incredible, he did all the poses in the primary series and also included headstand, shoulderstand etc. So far all the ashtanga classes I have been to, can only cover up to the basic primary series.
