Yes, finally I have gotten a chance to attend Patrick’s class! Patrick? Who is Patrick? Oh he is just the director of the Hong Kong yoga centre that I am a member of here in Singapore.
This wildly infamous class of his which I missed for a number of times, as I have heard from my yoga buddies that his class is great and touted that his class is really tough. But they forgot to mention that his class is wildly fun too! Yes, tough… he asked us to do the toughest but interestingly fun stuff.
He started the class differently, asking all of us to crowd around, to be as close to each other as possible. He was funny and yet exudes that kinda of quiet power or inner bright or glow that he is able to broadcast out to everyone in the class. Unpretentious, unassuming, down to earth kinda person, not proud, no ego but just him. His style of yoga is Anusara yoga which stress alot on alignment and opening of the heart. I like that style of yoga, fun, happy place for anyone, any age, any level to join in as a community in the class and then just enjoy yoga without feeling bad that you cannot do that pose or this pose. Just being you, being happy, being at peace.
Once we start the class, it was good, his instructions were clear and easy to follow. But maybe not to a new person as Anusara styled teachings I find that it tends to be “flowery”…using phrases like “opening your heart”, “soften your outer skin”, “soften your heart”, etc It took me sometime to understand what my regular yoga teacher was saying. I picked up alot of good pointers from Patrick. plus it doesn’t hurt that he is really cute too! Cute as a button!
His poses are really inspiring, he does them so effortlessly. As though he does not use strength at all.
We did this interesting pose. Stand in Tadasana and lift your right leg in front and hold with your right hand on the outer side of foot of the lifted leg (utthita hasta padangusthasana without the resting of the head on the leg), then move your lifted leg to one side ( using your inner thigh muscles ). Then stretch your left hand out to balance. From here, open your heart and bend backwards! Do a baby backbend here. Yes, a backbend with one foot on the ground and the other lifted up at the side. How’s that?? I am glad I was able to do it, perhaps not so perfectly but good enough and most importantly I had fun. For those could not do it, he suggested we get a friend to help by borrowing their the shoulder!
It was the most wet yoga class i went to. And it was 2.5 hr long! But it was great, and it was inspiring and it was fun!
Om~
My short form of poses done :
wheel, forearm balance, handstand, side plank, full side plank with baby backbend, …
