Ashtanga yoga is a very popular yoga practice that many enjoy. The class I went to was full of fantastic yoga practioners who are advanced in their practice. They had all come specially for this teacher’s class and we had a blast chatting on what’s happening etc. while we waited for the class to begin.

The chat included some unhappiness over the studios’ management. What happened was the classes that are offered in the current studio are mostly catering to the beginners level. In one day, there are as many as 5 beginners classes like yoga therapy, gentle yoga and hot yoga and they have also added many new non-yoga related classes like dance etc. There used to be several more intermediate classes that were taught but now they are disappearing one by one. This caused great unhappiness in the group of practitioners who were already past the beginner’s stage and are looking for more in depth practice.

And guess what happened?

The management screwed up. They came in to inform us that there were no class by this teacher as he is not back yet. All of us were stunned. The class schedule did not reflect that (even the online schedule did not indicate that) and many of us including a lady who gave up a last minute job to come, another lady who rushed and took a cab down to the studio…

Some of the regulars were furious. They had in fact been complaining that the class schedules were “muck” and they had messed up many times.

This was the last straw for a few of them. One of the management lady came up to tell us that they are getting another teacher ( which none of us practice under ) to stand in and teach another class. This caused another wave of lament from the group. In the end the group demanded that we do our own Mysore style without a teacher and asked that we are compensated. ( note that the management had this rule that if you booked a class and never turned up, you have to pay a fine of $25!!!! )

And so I attempted my very first Mysore… HAHA… can’t rem anything after the sun salutations…. I tried to follow the other experienced students in the class but … I think it became “Anysore” for me… :P doing whatever I see the rest doing…

okok… i still prefer power classes anytime.

om~
