I had not gone for a Yin Yoga class for a long time.
Yesterday was my first yin class since 2 months ago. Many students think that Yin Yoga is real easy. It depends. In fact it can be really tough and difficult. It all depends on how you go into it. But for me, the tough part was to relax the muscles that I am so accustomed to use during normal “yang” classes like power yoga.
How I relaxed my muscles was by tensing them first and then releasing them with deep breathing. And I keep thinking breathing into those muscles that are tense. Yin yoga holds alot of poses for a lot time to get into the deep stretch in the joints. At times, pain creeps in, not because of the muscles but my bone and flesh against the hard floor etc. But it was good for the body. I felt opened after that especially at the hips.
Of course, being the Power yoga fanatic, I went for a class after the yin. The body felt much more fluid and light. The yin has indeed merged with the yang to create a nice balance in the body.
In the class I met a new teacher who is from New York and has trained under Baron Baptise. Thus her specialty is Power yoga. This is terrific! More interesting power classes to go for and another teacher to learn from!
om~ Ashtanga yoga later…
