Christmas In Kuala Lumpur

Spending Christmas in Kuala Lumpur with someone you love and good friends at a cosy jazz place is fabulous.

I have in fact gone to the same joint called No Black Tie for the second time yesterday.

Cool eh? No Black Tie, what a name. The entrance is also pretty unique, those not in the know, would have thought that they are not opened for business! Once you enter the pub, you are greeted with a bright cheery interior with a typical bar settings. Head on straight and you find yourself in a cozy dining area with a warmly lit stage. Very intimate and sexy setting. Very apt for a laid back evening with a few good friends and quality music. There is a reasonable cover charge of RM$20 which goes direct to the performing artiste.
First night, I was there early with Fendi and we had a fantastic japanese dinner. Weird too, 2 Singaporeans listening to Brazilian jazz and eating Japanese food.

The Japanese food was surprisingly real good… considering from a jazz pub. They were playing Brazillian Jazz that night by a local artiste called Cheong. His fingers floated across the guitar strings like butterfly and sweet music flowed. His voice was not fantastic but the way he sang, the way he carry the songs, was magical. I loved it. Not only that, they had a guest percussionist,

On Christmas eve, we went again, this time with Fendi’s room mate, Barbod and his wife, Amy. We had planned a very nice fantastic Christmas eve program that started with a nice bottle of red wine. A 2002 merlot. I am not a fan of red wine, but this one was fruity, mellow and silky. Next we had a home prepared meal that Barbod, Amy and me have spent the whole afternoon to prepare. Barbod’s famed Iranian grilled chicken with stuffing ( exotic! you cannot get this outside ), Amy’s fresh crispy salad and my dessert of easy-to-bake brownie (philbury’s… choc fudgy walnut… good stuff ) with macadamia nut ice-cream. Yum. And guess what, a dose of iranian music gives the whole dinner that nice atmosphere. ( we did missed the candles though )

After that meal, we had 2 semi-drunk men filled to the brim with red wine. Nevertheless, the night must carry on. After a rest, a vomit later ( guess who vomited? ) and a dressing up, we set off for a countdown at No Black Tie. The artiste was a lady ( I did not catch her name ) who belted out jazzy christmas tune accompanied by piano and saxophone. We were joined later by Fendi’s colleague, Muthu and his girlfriend, Izak ( correct spelling? :P ). I had my very first Cosmopolitan drink, famed by Sarah Jessica Parker as this is her favourite. It was really strong alcohol but hey, with a little help from Amy and Barbod, I managed to finish the entire drink! Fendi says he’s so proud of me. :P
Our wonderful night was ended with a jamless ride back to home by a smart cab driver ( he managed to avoid all the jams, yes, even at 2am ).
