No.

It’s not Vrschikasana 1 ( forearm balance with scorpion ) or  Vrschikasana 2 ( handstand with scorpion ) or Natarajasana full pose… ( ya, granted I cannot do any of these on my own yet, I believe anyone who is consistent and dedicated enough will ONE day be able to do them… it may take 2, 5, 10, 20 or more years… but it is possible )
It is just “Being Within”.

The mind is always, well, “flowing”? … fleeting thoughts come in and out, sometimes even without me noticing. How to keep one’s thoughts on nothing else except at that moment. Focusing just on your breath or a dristri. It is easier when you are in all the asanas except one – Sarvasana ( corpse pose ). It is not just sleeping! Your mind must be alert and focus on your breathing while your whole physical body relaxes. Sounds easy?
Keeping your body still there for a long time with nothing in your mind except to focus on your breathing and perhaps your inner self is difficult. For 10 seconds I can probably do that, but after a minute, I find my mind wandering to “I wonder who will get eliminated today in American Idol? Hmmm… ” or “what shall I eat later? Buy or just make a sandwich?”… or “Wow, I can balance in handstand for 5 seconds!”…

Ah…. the mind is in a whirl…

  1. Heya. I found you through MyBlogLog.

I’m enrolled in a Yoga class at my university and have found it considerably more physical than I expected it to be. It’s fun though. :-)

I don’t know the names of the positions. The most difficult pose for me is balancing on one leg and one arm, with the other leg lifted and the arm pointing directly up.

*reads over that again* Yeah, I think that describes it, hah.

As for the mind, yeah, mine is always jumping from one thing to another. I’m not sure that I can even keep it quite for ten seconds.

    Enjoy! ;D

  2. Hi Steph

Glad you enjoyed your yoga class!

Oooo that pose is Half Moon Pose or Ardha Chandrasana. See this picture from Yoga Journal ( good website to learn about the various poses ) : http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/784_1.cfm

I am sure you will improve and get strong after consistent practice. But do listen to your body and do not let ego take over. I got hurt couple of times because I over force my body! ( you can read my weird pains I get… LOL )

    Namaste!

    :)

  3. Hiya again. Book marks are our friends. ;->

Half Moon pose, that’s the one! *looks at the pic* Yep, though I manage to look a bit more silly than that doing it I’m sure. I figure that’s half the fun, heh heh.

I love how that page lists “Diarrhea” as a caution. I don’t know about you, but Yoga is the last thing that I would be doing if I were suffering from that, lol. :D

Oh, I do push myself a bit, but I keep my limitations in mind. I have a small muscle injury in my left hip that I need to consider.

Heroes is about to start, gotta go.

Have a good eve over there,
    ~Steph
