I have long heard of 108 sun salutations or the likes during special gathering whether for world peace or save the whales. Why 108?
According to some Hindu and Buddhist traditions, there seemed to be special significance to 108. No matter what it holds, the thought of dedicating your practice to a good cause no doubt a worthwhile effort.
Though I have not done it yet. I would like to… one day. 108… yikes.
I had a brief somewhat taste of it during the last class. Heebs had us do 32 “his style” sun salutations by incorporating a cresent moon in between. It was not a tough physical practice but more of a mental challenge to keep each breath for each move and for my own personal challenge, getting the beads of perspiration outta my eyes.
And of course, each of us must try to be in sync with the people besides you.
Initially when I started, I did try to sneak peeks of the girl beside me to keep “in tune”. However, after a few sets I sort of felt the flow.
THE FLOW
What do I mean?
The whole sequence on the left leg first and then on the right leg just flowed naturally. It’s like a smooth clockwork and I felt the mind without any outside thought. Not blank but just the flow and my breath.
Then it stung.
Just a single bead of perspiration seeped into my right eye. And the flow was “broken”… the mind whirled, the eye reacted with the closing of the eye lid… whooshed…. thereafter, probably after the twelve set, the flow was gone.
What followed was more beads of icky perspiration, my constant struggle to get the breathing back and the frantic wiping of my perspiration with my towel.
MORAL of the episode :
Get a good hair band or cut your fringe for your 108 salutations. Highly recommended.
