Yin yoga…. perhaps perfect for a good easy day of relaxation…ahhhh…

HAh!… I was so wrong. Perhaps weeks of inconsistent yoga practices and bad eating habits brought about much reluctant body and mind. This yin class was about opening hips and shoulders.

And boy, I really needed the openings, especially the shoulders.

We did some interesting variations to stretch and open the shoulders. And the teacher made us hold the pose for a pretty long time.

One particular shoulder opening which helped my shoulders opened is the one where you put your arms into the Garuda (see this pose : Garudanasa - Eagle Pose… btw, this pose is great for balancing your body or proportions as I was told by an indian yogi previously ) arms with one arm over the other. With your upper arms parallel to the floor ( as per the normal garuda arms ), move the lower arms, hands down with your arms still together.

Woah… I felt both sides of my shoulders stretched out even more.

Furthermore it also helped my wrists. I have tight wrists and many times when I do the reverse namaste with the hands on the back, I felt alot of pain on my wrists. They do not seem to be able to rotate as well.

However this lowering of the lower arms/hands in the garuda arms seemed to have open my wrists more. I am not very sure how… ( still investigating ) but I felt much much more comfortable now when I do my reverse namaste ( painfree wrists! ) and able to hold for much longer time.

Yey! One day is coming!

Being trying to find out how to detox.

So I went on my Apple detoxing…. thumbs up!

PS. I just realised that Yoga Journal had revamped their site. Very nice and clean and faster too! You gotta check that site out if you haven’t. It’s really a helpful site if you are just starting out on yoga!
