About a week ago, I went for an indian teacher’s Hatha 2 yoga class and I was reminded of many of the fundamentals of the yoga practice. He reminded the class of the reason why we practice. He also reminded us that ultimately what we want to achieve is not the asana perfection but rather, the inner peace, our inner growth, enlightenment?

His humility and his openness towards other form of yoga is what i truly admire about this teacher. I saw him going for classes by other teachers and he do sincerely learn from these teachers ( he tried whatever the teacher was teaching… a really humble man ). He also mentioned during class as he was getting us to do the peacock pose that in his ashram, they do not focus on alignment as it comes naturally to them but however, we should follow the alignment that we are accustomed to. He respects other style of yoga and acknowledges that they are beneficial to others and asks that we follow whatever we feel best for ourselves. This is what I believe too.

He also emphasised on the bandhas in the class… many many times. How the bandhas creates lift, much like a parachute. It’s not that other teachers do not emphasised on the bandhas but when he demo the poses… it was really inspiring. It is really like what he said, the lift he creates using the bandhas allowed him to go into the poses with ease and lightness ( he kept saying we have to practice and practice the bandhas so that we get lighter and lighter, until one day we can all fly! haha… :) )

His poses are also slightly different from what I am accustomed to doing. This is great! I think by doing totally different poses help to engage different muscles.
